  • "Grace to Avoid the Throwback (1 Peter Ch.4) - June 12, 2016

Chances are you have been caught in a throwback. The joy of the throwback brings you back to that place in time when candy, TV shows and just being young and fun was most of your life. But there is a dark-side of the throwback because not everything you did, or were apart of, was as “young and fun” as you remember it. Most of our throwback years were not entirely filled with candy and silly sketch comedies because the throwback years are not just those growing up times when you were young but they were also those years you were trying to figure out who out who you wanted to be.

For most those throwback years are filled with addictions, hurts, fears, broken relationships, great disappointment, sickness, loss and confusion. So while there are certainly great throwback moments they are often intertwined with not so great moments and Pastor Joshua visits 1 Peter Ch.4 and shares on the great dangers of the throwback and why, if you are meant to be the life giving seed of hope, the throwback is a place we not only can’t live in but need to avoid.

While not mentioned in Peter’s “Deadly sins” offense is often discovered as the root cause for allowing sin to thrive. In contrast to the world we have been selected and hand picked to be sown into this world, among this humanity, to spread the seed of the Gospel that gives you hope, holiness and harmony. You know it’s a key and you know it can lock and or unlock a mechanism but not just any locking mechanism. Some keys will even slide in and appear to be a perfect fit but then you will discover if it is not the correct key because it cannot turn to the left or right. The problem is not in how the lock is made or that the lock requires a key. The problem is it is the wrong key is trying to do what only the right key can achieve.

As Pastor Joshua journey’s through the Epistle of 1 Peter we are going to encounter familiar themes, contemporary and orthodox theological positions, inherited beliefs that are like the key and lock. Words like grace, hope, holiness and harmony are a small sample of ideas we must wrestle with; but remember we are not wrestling God about these concepts, and their application, but with ourselves.

Words have life and power and while negative words can attempt to break us down words of affirmation can build us up and even strengthen us. Also, a life expecting nothing is a life without hope or a future. But when we are expectant of “next” our creativity and passion spur us to action. As we look at the final chapters of SOS Pastor Joshua explores the words of affirmation God speaks over those He loves and the spirit of expecting God’s next for our lives. Immature love, lazy days sitting under the shade of a familiar places, the marketplace or “street Jesus” we are comfortable with and the spiritual complacency that allows to take the most precious things in life for granted even as they are moving away. We also see attitudes of later, or excuse making of “you go for me” when the invitation from the very beginning was to draw close, take the journey or trust, write new pages with Jesus and allow Him to get into the guarded areas so He can heal your brokenness and insert His best identity in your life.

In this teaching Pastor Joshua explores the second half of Song of Solomon Chapter 4 and why we are protecting the safe places we try to keep under the lock and key...even from God. • "The Foundations of Love Pt.2: The Immovable Object Versus the Unstoppable Force” (Song of Solomon Ch.1)" - July 26, 2015

What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? The question is often raised in a physics class and it has even managed to find its way into the popular culture of a wrestling ring. In fact, every one of us have encountered, throughout the journey of life, such moments when we face the immovable objects of life. They can range from professional challenges to financial hardships, marital difficulties, family strains and personal fears or insecurities. There are even spiritual immovable objects, such as the agenda’s of an anti-Christ world that, by their very design and purpose, are established to frustrate, delay and even attempt to get you to give up.

The reality is the immovable and unstoppable are destined to be on a collision course. And guess what? The immovable, that is very movable when faced with the unstoppable love of God. In this teaching Pastor Joshua and Jeannette explore the love of God shown toward us and how our love toward Him moves the great obstacles in our life.

  • "Pentecost and Beyond Pt. 6 “Independence or Dependence?” (Acts 7)" - July 15, 2015

Today, there is pride in just about everything. Proud to be an American, proud to be a survivor of a deadly disease, pride in being a veteran, pride in accomplishing a marathon, pride in being a dad, mom, grandparent, etc...The results of such pride are often associated with declarations that are received in medals, flags, ribbons, T-shirts, mugs.

In his final teaching, “Pentecost and Beyond” Pastor Joshua takes a look at the core ingredients of pride, patriotism and independence and asks what happens when a nations independence replaces its dependence that made it great? What happens when a people think, live and behave with independence being the highest ideal and not longer desire to depend on anything higher than self? What happens when we collectively ceded from our spiritual dependence and embrace spiritual independence as gold standard of evolved spiritual, moral and natural law?

By visiting the life and final moments of Stephen’s ministry Pastor Joshua addresses the need for every Christian to not live independent but dependent on God. While the cultural push is for independence Pastor Joshua uses the life and words of Stephen to help refocus every believer on where our true loyalty lies and how we can become genuine advocates of freedom, in Him, without being lulled into a spiritual slumber by godless attitudes of pride and independence.

After the events of Charleston became more clear the our society, without Christ, was quick lay blame on everything from a flag to a weapon. Like reading from an already prepared template politicians and media commentators delivered their lines incapable of grasping the deeper spiritual reality of such violence. Sadly, such acts of violence are becoming more frequent, larger and troubling. Thankfully, if there is such evil than there has to be an even great love. A love that surpasses our understanding and instead of stealing = blesses, instead of killing = births life, instead of destruction = builds and in place of division brings unity. In this teaching Pastor Joshua reflects on Charleston and the larger challenges facing a world that is increasingly separating from God. And while you may not have grown up in an ideal home or perhaps you were unable to provide an ideal home today your home can be a safe place with life-long richness that binds generations together. In this teaching Pastor Joshua asks two important questions and discovers three answers, within the text of Acts Ch. 5, as what binds the community of Jesus together.

  • "Pentecost and Beyond Pt.1 (Acts Ch.5) It’s Yours To Do With It What You Want." - May 17, 2015

How often have you found yourself rationalizing and justifying a position or decision even when you know, deep down, God is not going to back you choice? Those moments provide opportunities where hurt become offense, anger turns into bitterness and even fundamental or progressive beliefs in God (theology) can settle into religiosity. In this teaching Pastor Joshua unpacks the meaning behind the phrase: “It’s your to do with it what you want.” Drawing from Acts Ch. 5 Pastor Joshua explores the words of Peter as he was addressing the gift Ananias and his wife Sapphaira gave to the early church community in Jerusalem. But how does this first century story speak to us today? And what can we learn from Peter’s words today?

As Christians, we are all too aware of a power that goes beyond the seen into the unseen and we witness its many manifestations daily. But as Christians we also know, and have experienced, a power from God that overcomes the powers and principalities of this world. We have been recipients of His power grace, mercy, love and compassion. It is time to humble, seek, pray and turn so that He may visit us, again, in a time of desperation and trouble. In our continuing study on revival we examine the life and times of Samuel and explore a “God hero” that knew how to pray, intercede and cry before the Lord. Can your tears be wasted on God? • "REVIVE US AGAIN: God is Looking for a Hero! (1 SAMUEL 7:1-13)" - Oct 12, 2014

Moments of destiny, divine providence and “for a time such as this” are phrases that precede or follow the obscure person who becomes heroic. Many of us enjoy stories that grow in legendary stature and remind us how even the most insignificant thing, person or event can change how we have come to know our world. On a deeper and perhaps more relatable level we gain hope and confidence in the stories of underdogs, forgotten hero’s, redeemed villains and the “simple” who defy the odds in acts of valor, heroism and courage.

Even after the rich history of Moses, Joshua and other judges the nation of Israel still struggled with following the Lord or doing what was right according to their own hearts and mind (as read in the book of Judges).

It was during a time of little revelation and worse yet, a darkening of the Word, God raised up a hero in the person on Samuel. Journey with Pastor Joshua and this teaching series that explores the great revival Israel encountered during the life of the prophet and judge, Samuel.

August 2014

  • "Revive Us Again: What’s In a Name?” (Genesis 35:13-15)" - August 31, 2014

When you consider it there is a lot in a name even when we just make them up, blend them or anchor them to a certain tradition. Names are identifiers that bring with them a meaning and set an initial course of direction for the life they are tied to. A name is never just a name, it tells a story and sets you in a place, time and within a family of people that contributed to your beginnings.

Names are important to God. Throughout the entirety of Scripture names were important to God because they identified a warning or a blessing upon the person. In some cases God commanded a name being given. In other instances the move of the Spirit was such where to person named their child after the moment where they encountered God. But names are crucial and chiefly important to God.

As we have been studying the Biblical principles for revival and journeying through the lives of kings, priests and even patriarchs we have been looking into a certain season of Jacob’s life as read in Genesis 33-35. Despite the failures, set-backs and missed opportunities Jacob was a man who finally set his focus on the promise of God and resulted in the renewed promise with boldness, vigor and a new name.

In this teaching Pastor Joshua shares how and why names matter to God and why only He can change our personalities and give us His blessing.

  • "Revive Us Again: The Perfect Irion Dome” Pt.2 (Genesis 35:8-12)" - August 24, 2014

While Jacob was a man who experienced revival, and covenant promises in his life, he also experienced a series of failures and traps that were meant to rob him from His ultimate destiny. In this teaching Pastor Joshua shares how after failure God brings us back to where He is and can do so while defending you on your journey back to Him.

As we continue to study the Biblical principles for revival today we turn to the life and events of Jacob. While Jacob was a man who experienced revival, and covenant promise in his life, he also experienced a series of failures and traps that meant to rob him from His ultimate destiny. In this teaching Pastor Joshua shares with us the dangers of idols and subtle attitudes that make us “dirty” when we think we are clean, and how we can prepare ourselves to receive God’s outpouring despite seasons of failure.

  • "REVIVE US AGAIN? A Look at Hesed (Love), Waiting on the Lord’s Peace (Shalom) and Presence (Kavod). (Psalm 85) Pt.2" - August 10, 2014

As we continue our study of Biblical principles, for revival today, we examine the second part of Psalm 85 and the song of Korah’s descendants. July 2014

  • "Revive Us Again: To Turn (2 Chronicles 30-32)" - July 27, 2014

As we have been exploring the Biblical template in which God shows us, through Scripture, the lives of real people; we turn to the life of King Hezekiah who took on the challenge of preparing himself, and the people, to invite God’s presence into their desperate circumstances. In every instance when God’s people humbled themselves, sought His face, prayed and turned from their wicked ways He visited their life’s, land and provided them victory in their embattled areas.

Instead of addressing the need of “turning from our wicked ways” through the lens our sin as greater than His grace we must acknowledge our sin always separates us from His holiness. Yes, His love is still present, His mercy available and His grace more than capable but the breech of our sin needs to be repaired. This bridge of restoration is rebuilt from our admission of wrong-doing, turning from such actions and receiving His great gift of love through forgiveness. We must be bold enough to probe our scarred conciseness and deal with whatever may prevent the conditions of revival from developing in our lives.

In this teaching Pastor Joshua discusses repentance, forgiveness and the road to restoration, and revival, by turning from our past and embracing our future in Him!

In this teaching Pastor Joshua explores “why” we need revival and “how” we can prepare the conditions for a spiritual renewal for today. June 2014

  • "Our Table, His Table the Table of Revival" - June 29, 2014

Every Sunday my family gathers, after church, and sits down for lunch. I’ve been apart of this family tradition for as long as I can remember and throughout the years the table has grown and shrunk with different people seated, at the table, throughout the many seasons of life. I’ve experienced it all at the table: disagreements, moments of tear-filled desperation, announcements of engagements, pregnancies, new jobs, new opportunities and in short coming to the table has also given me the opportunity to really experience and live life.

It’s rather sad to be sitting next to people who seldom share a word with one another throughout an entire dinner setting. It’s also sad when people come to the table and there is no one to share life with. There are no conversations where one can feel safe to express their hopes, fears or just feel like they belong once again to a safe and loving family.

While we can acknowledge there are many reasons why today’s table is not the safe place, it once was, that does not change the reality that, for God, the table has always been a place of invitation, hospitality, kindness, love, miracles, compassion and even revival. It is in the table of Christ the deeper thirst, which can never be satisfied by natural means, is quenched; and when we gather together as a genuine family of Jesus, and in Jesus, we set a table to invite others to experience what we already know and live for ourselves.

  • "Revive Us Again?” (Introduction) - June 22, 2014

Western nations and society are experiencing an unprecedented moral bankruptcy that sadly the church, in large part, is contributing to the decline by no longer considering the church as a place where revival can be birthed in the hearts of a desperate and spiritually hungry people. To quote John Armstrong, “Passion, if it is truly born from God, is born and nurtured in an atmosphere of truth. Truth is birthed and fanned into a flame by the clear understanding of the Bible and its message of covenant and grace. Ultimately the Word of God, used directly by the Spirit of God, is the only proven means for bringing about the reformational revival needed in our time.”

Can we experience revival again? Does God pour our His times of refreshing based from His sovereign will? Can we created environments where revival is invited and stays with us? In the beginning of the new teaching series Joshua explores revival beyond the stories and definitions and seeks to help us understand the conditions and Biblical principles for revival today!

  • "Revelation: Getting it Right From the Beginning: 4 Views, Symbols, Signs, Numbers, the Author and the Inheritance.” - May 12, 2013

I’m the kind of person who loves to know how a movie ends. Depending on how excited I am I may not even care about the details, just tell me how it all ends. But the truth is even if you were to tell me how a movie ends the middle stuff and especially the beginning matters because it only helps the end make sense. In same manner the book of Revelation is not any different. We need to get Revelation correct from the beginning, for that matter the entire Word of God, but specifically we can’t just jump to the back of the book and read the final amen without know what is happening leading up to “the end.” Truthfully much of what we have adopted or understood to be true is less from our personal study and more from the study of others. So, before we dive in, head first, we need to tip toe in and get Revelation correct from the beginning.
